The School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (MACS) welcomes applications for the above post from suitably qualified candidates in the fields of actuarial science and insurance mathematics, financial mathematics, or quantitative approaches to financial risk including financial econometrics. The school is internationally renowned in actuarial science and financial risk through the world-leading research activities of its Department of Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics, where the post is located. Areas of strength include quantitative risk management, longevity risk, pension plan asset-liability modelling, actuarial mathematics, stochastic asset models, and derivative pricing and hedging. The Department has strong links to the financial services industry in Scotland, through the Scottish Financial Risk Academy, and to the Actuarial Profession with the establishment of the Actuarial Research Centre, which offers industry-funded PhD studentships. It forms part of the Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences, through which its research activities are combined with those of the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. The Maxwell Institute is an international centre of excellence, covering the whole range of mathematical science. The Maxwell Institute performed extremely well in Unit of Assessment B10 (Mathematical Sciences) in REF 2014, achieving critical mass as the fifth most powerful mathematical sciences research grouping in the U.K, and for the first time the department submitted some of its research to Unit of Assessment C19 (Business and Management), a development which highlights our commitment to growing the scope and impact of our research.
