In Memory of Dieter Sondermann (1937-2026)

With great sadness we have to share the news that Prof. Dr. Dieter Sondermann has passed away.

He was a founding member of the Bachelier Finance Society in 1996 and founding Editor-in-Chief of Finance&Stochastics from 1996 to 2003.

The community loses a highly esteemed colleague, dedicated teacher and researcher.
Dieter Sondermann studied mathematics in Bonn and Hamburg, he got his PhD in Erlangen and wrote his habilitation in Saarbrücken. He was a professor of statistics at the University of Bonn from 1979 until he retired in 2002.

He was internationally renowned for his fundamental contributions to financial and goods markets.

He will be dearly missed by the community. His family and friends are in our thoughts.
