Full Professor of Mathematics for Economics and Business (Ref.no. 2016-01)
WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) is currently inviting applications for the position of a Full Professor of Mathematics for Economics and Business at the Department of Finance, Accounting and Statistics.
WU is one of the largest business universities in the European Union and is centrally located at the heart of Europe. The University maintains an excellent position as a center for research and teaching and attracts an international group of students and faculty. It offers a broad range of undergraduate, graduate, and executive programs in the area of business, economics, and business law. WU has been granted triple accreditation by EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA, and is a member of a number of international networks such as PIM and CEMS.
The new professor of Mathematics for Economics and Business will join the Institute for Statistics and Mathematics at WU’s Department of Finance Accounting and Statistics. He or she will develop and implement a highly innovative research agenda in the field of optimization and stochastics, dealing with the theory of optimization methods and with their algorithmic implementation. Potential areas of interest include optimization for random systems, multi-objective and set-valued optimization, stochastic control, or optimization in financial mathematics. In view of the overall research agenda of the Institute for Statistics and Mathematics, we are particularly interested in applicants working at the intersection of optimization and stochastics. Research experience in the application of optimization methods to the fields of finance, economics or business, and the proven ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment is mandatory.
Required Skills and Qualifications: a) a solid academic qualification (e.g. PhD, habilitation) in mathematics or a related area; b) an outstanding international reputation in high quality scholarship in the area of optimization and stochastics, especially by having demonstrated the ability to publish in top-tier journals in the field; c) teaching qualifications at undergraduate and graduate level d) a strong record in attracting research funding; e) proven international experience; f) leadership qualities; g) gender mainstreaming skills.
The successful candidate will participate in teaching programs at all levels (bachelor, MSc, doctorate) and we expect the new professor to take an active role in the ongoing development of the academic programs.
Teaching experience in English is required; teaching experience in German is not necessary. Non-German-speaking candidates are expected to acquire proficiency in German over a certain period of time.
The new professor is expected to take an active role in the University’s self-governance.
