The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, invites  applications  for a full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty position (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor) in Actuarial Science with a joint appointment in the Department of Mathematics and Department of Statistics.  The University of Illinois has one of the leading undergraduate actuarial science programs in the country.  Candidates are sought to help build on this record of excellence as commensurate programs for graduate education and research in Actuarial Science and Statistics are developed.
The Department of Mathematics is one of the most prestigious departments in the areas of Mathematics with over 1200 undergraduate majors in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Mathematics and Computer Science and over 160 graduate students.  The Department of Statistics is a vibrant, growing department with over 400 undergraduate majors, over 150 graduate students, and a rich history of research in statistical theory and methods as well as interdisciplinary applications.  Illinois’ Actuarial Science Program is named as one of the prestigious Centers of Actuarial Excellence by the Society of Actuaries and is also one of the inaugural winners of the University Award by the Casualty Actuarial Society.  The program has close ties with many insurance companies, which have corporate research and development operations at the University of Illinois Research Park, offering unique opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
Successful candidates are expected to maintain an active and independent research program, provide service to the department, the university and the profession, and teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Preference will be given to either statistical oriented candidates, particularly in the areas of data analytics, machine learning, or Bayesian methods, OR applicants who are Associates or Fellows of one of the professional actuarial societies, or who have made exam progress toward membership.  However, all research areas pertaining to Actuarial Science are welcome.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Actuarial Science or related areas such as Statistics, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or another subject appropriate for Actuarial Science.  To be considered for a tenured appointment, the applicant must present a documented record of leadership in research and success in teaching.
