Mathematical Finance (MF), the Math Finance journal affiliated with the Bachelier Finance Society, invites nominations (including self-nominations) for the position of Editor. MF is a high-quality journal which brings together work on the mathematical aspects of finance theory from such diverse fields as finance, economics, mathematics, and statistics. An essential resource for academic finance researchers and practitioners alike, the journal publishes clear and concise articles which present the latest theoretical developments in an accessible way. Modern finance is becoming increasingly technical, requiring the use of sophisticated mathematical tools in both research and practice. MF offers a forum for the publication of articles which employ these techniques, as well as providing a much-needed bridge between mathematical scientists and financial economists.
The official term of appointment is three years beginning no later than January 1, 2020.
Responsibilities of the Editor:
- Provide operational leadership and direction for the journal
- Recruit, select, and work with Editorial Board Members, and periodical refresh/diversify members
- Maintain, develop, and refine journal Vision, Scope, and Strategic direction for subject relevance and currency
- Collaborate with Wiley staff on strategy, process, and new initiatives
- Commission articles and special issues with a focus on growth and quality of content
- Ensure an efficient and fair peer review process, and maintain an adequate reviewer pool
- Ensure the integrity of research published in the journal, promptly flagging potential ethical issues to the Publisher
- Network, travel, and advocate on behalf of the journal within the community
- Steer and develop the journal’s profile and reputation, expanding reach and representation
- Assign appropriate peer reviewers based upon content and method expertise
- Review and communicate all final decision recommendations
- Communicate effectively with all prospective authors, reviewers, editorial board members, members of the editorial team, publisher’s staff, as well as any other important journal stakeholders
- Host editorial team and editorial board meetings, preparing and disseminating editorial team and board reports
- Coach, mentor, and provide other development as appropriate of editorial team members

Selection criteria for the role of Editor/Co-Editor include:
- Scope and prestige of professional network and ability to actively commission papers
- Current academic employment at a research university
- Familiarity with MF’s aims and scope and involvement with the journal as a previously published author, reviewer, or editorial board member
- Interest and experience in appropriate content and methodological fields relevant to MF and associated fields
- A record of scholarly publications within finance, economics, mathematics, and statistics
- Experience in peer review of journal papers, special issue editorship, assistant or associate editor experience; editorial board membership of one or more journals in the finance, economics, mathematics, and statistics fields
- Leadership, communication, organizational, and project management skills in support of journal operations
Self-nominations are encouraged and applications should include the following:
- A one-page letter of application that addresses how the applicant(s) meet the selection criteria and their vision for the journal
- A curriculum vita
The submission deadline is January 31, 2019, although interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
The deadline for other nominations and recommendations is December 31, 2018, and should include the name of the candidate and a brief description of why he or she would be an ideal candidate.
