The School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences welcomes applications for the post of Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Chair in the general field of stochastics, including probability, stochastic modelling, statistics and statistical data science. The School is internationally renowned in actuarial science, financial risk, applied probability and statistics through the world-leading research activities of its Department of Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics, where the post holder will be located. Areas of particular strength include stochastic networks and their applications in communications and energy, numerical methods for stochastic differential equations, actuarial and financial mathematics, statistical machine learning, stochastic modelling and inference in epidemiology and the life sciences, and mathematical and computational imaging. This position has arisen as part of a strategic expansion of the Department that will see us add up to 4 new positions.
The School is a partner in the Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences, a joint research institute bringing together our mathematical research activities with those of the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. The Institute, which also hosts the joint Maxwell Institute Graduate School, is an internationally pre-eminent collaborative centre for research and for postgraduate training in the mathematical sciences, and offers an environment that is able to attract and foster the very best mathematical talent from around the world.
As the successful candidate, you will lead, carry out and publish internationally excellent research in your field. You will be established (a requirement to be considered at Associate Professor / Chair level), or have the potential to become established as an international research leader, with strong postdoctoral research experience and the ambition to build a world-class academic group. You will have the relevant experience to be able to engage and innovate in our statistical data science, actuarial and financial mathematics teaching programmes and the enthusiasm to contribute to the expansion of our successful postgraduate programmes.
