The Institute for Statistics and Mathematics at WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) is currently inviting applications for a position as Assistant Professor, tenure track (qualification agreement) in the field of Computational Statistics and for a position as Assistant Professor, tenure track (qualification agreement) in the field of Applied Probability and Statistics.

Desired profile (for both positions)
Applicants should hold a diploma or an MSc as well as a PhD in mathematics, statistics or equivalent. We expect scientific excellence, documented by publications in internationally recognized journals and international experience (a PhD from a non-Austrian university or at least one year of working experience on the postdoc level at a non-Austrian university and a good international network). First managerial experience (e.g. acquisition and/or management of third-party projects) is an advantage. German language skills are not a prerequisite, but we expect the willingness to acquire proficiency in German over time.

Responsibilities (for the position in computational statistics)
The successful applicant will carry out independent research and supervision activities in the field of Computational Statistics. We are particularly interested in researchers whose scientific work focuses on the computational aspects of modern statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms and their application to the analysis of large data sets.

Responsibilities (for the position in Applied Probability and Statistics)
The successful applicant will carry out independent research and supervision activities in the field of Applied Probability and Statistics. We are particularly interested in researchers whose scientific work covers the mathematical analysis of applied probabilistic models and their computational and statistical realization.

For both positions, a proven interest in applications from the fields of economics, finance or business is an advantage, but candidates working in other application areas in the fields of social or environmental science are also encouraged to apply. Teaching duties initially comprise 4hrs per week.

Deadline for applications is Jan 6, 2020 (for Computational Statistics) and Jan 15, 2020 (for Applied Probability and Statistics.

For details, please contact the institute head, Professor Kurt Hornik, Institute for Statistics and Mathematics, by phone: +43-1-31336-4756, or email: kurt.hornik@wu.ac.at

Applications can be submitted online via www.wu.ac.at/jobs, ID 427 (for computational statistics) respectively ID 480 (for applied probability and statistics).
