These appointments will sit within the Institute for Financial and Actuarial Mathematics (IFAM) formed in 2011, which has established itself as a global leader for research in financial and actuarial mathematics, and for collaborative training of junior researchers. IFAM has developed strong links with the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences, underpinned by an institutional MoU, and have successfully bid for ODA grants to work on microfinance, microcredit, risk ordering and to fund exchanges. IFAM runs a summer research internship scheme for undergraduates (growing from 8 in 2013 to >50 in recent years). Students work on research problems provided by industrial partners, typically involving data analysis, with the goal of signalling potential problems and/or managing risk.
