QRT-BFS BEST PAPER IN MATHEMATICAL FINANCE

Purpose and Scope

The Bachelier Finance Society and Qube Research & Technologies (QRT) are pleased to establish, sponsor, and administer the QRT-BFS Best Paper in Mathematical Finance.

The Prize is intended to recognize outstanding research published in the BFS-affiliated journal Mathematical Finance (Wiley-Blackwell) and to promote the journal as a premier venue for novel research in mathematical finance.

The Prize will be awarded annually for the best paper published in Mathematical Finance in the preceding calendar year.

The Prize is sponsored by Qube Research & Technologies (QRT) for at least three editions of the Prize.

Eligibility

  1. Eligible Works: All research articles published in Mathematical Finance during the previous calendar year are eligible.
  2. Authors: Single- or multi-author papers are eligible. In the case of multiple authors, the monetary award will be divided equally among the authors unless the authors jointly instruct otherwise in writing.

Selection Process

  1. Selection Committee: The current Editorial Board of Mathematical Finance will conduct the selection. The Editor in Chief shall oversee compliance with the process and will act as the Chair of the selection process.
  2. Scoring Method: Each participating editor will submit a ranked ballot listing up to three papers. For each paper, scores are averaged across the participating editors.
  3. Shortlist: The three papers with the best average scores will constitute the shortlist to be presented to the Editorial Board.
  4. Final Decision: From the shortlist, the Editorial Board will determine the final ranking and select the winning paper.
  5. Administration: The Editor-in-Chief, or their delegate, will act as the Chair, oversee the process and maintain records of votes.
  6. Fallback: Should the above process fail to select a winner, the BFS will decide and enact a replacement process. Any such process will need to be approved by the Extended Council of the BFS.

QRT shall have no influence on the selection of the winner and will not participate in any stage of the deliberations or voting in the selection process.

Award and Benefits

  1. BFS is responsible for awarding the Prize and communicating the award to the winner.
  2. Monetary Award: The author(s) of the winning paper will receive a monetary award of USD 5,000.
  3. Seminar Invitation: The author(s) may, at QRT’s discretion, be invited to present a seminar on the winning research at a QRT office at a mutually agreeable location and date.
  4. Taxes: Any taxes, duties, or charges arising from receipt of the Monetary Award shall be the responsibility of the recipient(s).

Notification of Prize Winners

  1. BFS is responsible for awarding the Prize and communicating the award to the winner.

  3. Seminar Invitation. The author(s) may, at QRT’s discretion, be invited to present a seminar on the winning research at a QRT office at a mutually agreeable location and date.
  4. Taxes. Any taxes, duties, or charges arising from receipt of the Monetary Award shall be the responsibility of the recipient(s).

Winners

We are happy to announce the winners of the 2025 award. The best paper published in 2024 is “The rough Hawkes Heston stochastic volatility model” by by Alessandro Bondi, Sergio Pulido and Simone Scotti.
